I’m Moira Beaton. I lived in the Middle East for 25 years before coming home, going to university and becoming a lawyer.
Apart from law, I’ve picked up qualifications in areas as diverse as forensic medicine, medical ethics, holistic therapies, life coaching, writing, presentation skills and public speaking.
Now, I use many of these skills coaching lawyers to deliver powerful presentations, in English, with confidence.
Delivering a presentation, whether it’s to one or one hundred, can be nerve-wracking for some people; delivering a presentation in a foreign language can be their worst nightmare.
You know what you want to say, but there’s an internal battle going on in your head between your native language and English. Who’s going to win?
When you do speak, you realise your structure is wrong and you start to ramble.
Your voice doesn’t sound natural with colour and intonation; you sound like a robot.
You don’t know what to do with your hands and your body; and you can’t make eye contact with anyone in the room.
Your slides are boring, full of facts and data because facts and data are safe.
You don’t use stories or anecdotes, or language devices to make your presentation come alive; your words are formal and stilted because your vocabulary is limited.
You’re playing it safe, but safe doesn’t get you where you want to go in your career.
The good news is no-one is born being able to speak confidently in public; presentation skills can be learned.
My 10 week programme is designed for the legal profession. With it you will learn how to:
Feel confident speaking to an audience of any size.
Keep the audience engaged and interested with your voice and varied use of language.
Use slides that support, rather than replace, your presentation.
Handle difficult questions from the audience with ease.
Get your message across so that the audience remembers it long after you have spoken.
